Makati is now offering free walking tours to explore the city in a new light

If there's one place to go to experience a vibrant business district and bustling nightlife, it's Makati.

Serving as one of the metro's places-to-be amid its many establishments, businesses, and walkable areas, Makati has long been an epicenter to experience Manila. But with changes in the pandemic, even the most well-traveled Makatizen still needs a refresher every now and then.

Enter Makati's Walking Tours, an initiative from the city's International Relations Department (IRD) to immerse both locals and tourists to Makati in the new normal.

Starting this August 1, the walking tour aims to reintroduce popular sites in the city, from churches, the central business district, community markets, to even the heritage sites of the party spot known as Poblacion.

Best of all, the walking tours are a free-for-all, given that attendees only need to register to the scheduled meeting points from Tuesday to Sunday. Here are a few of the sites you can check out:

St. Alphonsus Mary de Ligousi Church-Garden Way of the Cross

Every Tuesday from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM

Meeting place: Glorietta 2

Makati Central Business District

Every Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM

Meeting Point: Glorietta 2

Poblacion Heritage Sites

Every Thursday from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Meeting Point: Museo ng Makati

Salcedo Community Market

Meeting Point: Glorietta 2

Legazpi Sunday Market

Every Sunday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM

This wouldn't be the first time that a city in the metro has set up initiatives for pedestrians to freely explore, as Pasig City has been utilizing Open Street Sundays and the carless People's Street to highlight its public spaces.

Interested attendees will need to register for the individual tours here. You can visit the My Makati Facebook page for further details.
