Artists give tribute to Jamir Garcia
Many prominent personalities from the local arts and music community expressed grief and tribute following the death of rock music icon Jamir Garcia, the frontman of Slapshock.
Garcia was found dead at their house in Quezon City. He was 42.
Slapshock lead guitarist Lean Ansing expressed sorrow in a Facebook post.
"We are saddened by the untimely death of our beloved Jamir Garcia," Ansing said.
He also asked others to respect Garcia's memory.
"As the family mourns the loss of our beloved Jamir, may we humbly ask to respect his memory. Thus, may we ask everyone to delete all photos of Jamir's remains from social media," Ansing said.
MYX Philippines also posted on Facebook to extend their "deepest sympathies."
"He was both a fierce performer on stage and a gracious professional to everyone in the MYX Family. A true rockstar to his fans and family. He will truly be missed in the OPM scene and his impact will forever be felt," MYX said.
Garcia's contemporary Reg Rubio, vocalist of the band Greyhoundz, also took to social media to give tribute.
"We competed against each other with our hearts out. Always at each other’s throats. But the friendship was real. Kapatirang tunay," Rubio said.
Rapper Gloc-9 tweeted "Rest in peace Kapatid" with the hashtag #jamir.
Singer and actor Kean Cipriano also expressed disbelief at the news and revealed how Garcia helped them when they were still starting out in the business.
"Napakataas ng respeto ko sa taong to. Hindi lng dahil magaling syang musikero, pero dahil pinakitaan din nya ako ng respeto na hindi ko basta basta natatanggap sa lahat ng musikero lalo na nung panahon na nagsisimula ako. Nung panahon na pakiramdam ko hindi kami sinseryoso ng mga artists na nauna samin, si Jamir yung isa sa mga nagparamdam sakin na parte ako ng industriyang to," Cipriano wrote.
Music photographer Niña Sandejas said that "we need to appreciate our musicians now more than ever, especially this time where live music doesn't exist and can't guide our hearts to find the right beat."
"Live forever, Jamir," Sandejas wrote.
Local synthwave pop band Brisom said in a tweet that "this is a very sad day for our local music scene."

Filipino singer Teddy Corpuz also expressed grief in a Tweet. "Lord bigyan mo kami ng lakas para makayanan ito. Di namin alam kung paano pero alam namin Your strength is made perfect in our weakness. Heal our broke hearts right now Lord," Corpuz said, with the hashtag #RipJamir.

Actor Joseph Bitangcol shared photos of him and Jamir. "If tears could build a stairway and memories were a lane, we would walk right up to heaven and bring you back again. At the arms of Jesus, rest in peace pre," Bitangcol wrote.
