A single vote sealed the win of a candidate running for councilor in Agusan del Sur
Every. Vote. Counts.
A single vote was all a candidate needed to secure the eighth and last slot for councilor in San Francisco in Agusan Del Sur.
Vanjune Napao was proclaimed councilor-elect on May 10 after getting 12,333 votes, beating rival Carlito Tandog's 12,332 votes by a hairline.
"Thank you so much for your trust, support, and blessings to me and to my whole family!" Napao wrote on Facebook.
Napao is part of the town's Team Gugma sa Lungsod (Love of Town), led by Grace Carmel Paredes-Bravo as mayoral bet and former councilor Arth Ryan Palabrica as vice mayoral bet.
Paredes-Bravo and Palabrica, in turn, defeated incumbents Solomon Rufila and Loloy Ursos, respectively, by a landslide. Paredes-Bravo got 23,853 votes vs. Rufila's 15,729, while Palabrica got 21,879 votes vs. Ursos's 14,605.
In case of a tie in local elections, the Commission on Elections has approved of a coin toss to decide the candidates' fate. Though Article XIX Section 240 of the Omnibus Election Code states that drawing of lots should be the way to go.
