The Manila’Bang Show goes to Space!

Published Oct 28, 2024 11:29 am

The Manila’Bang Show returns this November 2024, bigger and bolder than ever. Under the theme “Higher Grounds for the Contemporary and Beyond,” around 300 artists and 36 exhibitors from the Philippines and abroad will gather for this tremendous event. This year’s edition will push the limits of creativity.

With groundbreaking visual art, cutting-edge designer toys, and immersive musical performances, The Manila’Bang Show 2024 cements its place as The Metro Art Fair.

Contemporary art, while often referring to art made in the present, is a constantly evolving concept. The Manila’Bang Show previously proposed that even past art movements, reshaped by modern technology, can be considered contemporary. New terms like "post-contemporary" emerge as art trends shift, but the spirit of innovation remains, imagining new possibilities for the future.

This innovative approach is central to the theme of The Manila’Bang Show this year. The fair will happen at SPACE at One Ayala, Makati’s premier trade hall. Its expansive 3,000-square-meter space that elevates the show to new heights.

The fair will open on November 14, with its Vernissage starting at 1 p.m. The regular fair schedule is from November 15-17 from 10 p.m. to 9 p.m. 15 established names—including Kiko Escora, Martin Honasan, and Anton Del Castillo—lead the lineup of 300+ participating artists.

A key highlight is the special exhibition “Bitter Sugar: The HeArt of Nune Alvarado,” which celebrates Sagaynon artist Nunelucio Alvarado and his five-decade career as a pillar of Negrense art. It is organized to support his nomination to the Order of National Artists.

The fair also highlights emerging talent through the New Wave section featuring 34 artists blending pop culture with fine art, and the debut of NXT, showcasing eight young creatives pushing boundaries in graffiti and cross-stitching.

The Manila’Bang Show remains a hub for the art toy community, with the inaugural “BANG! Designer Toy Fest” spotlighting 30 artists in collectible toy design worldwide. “The Manila’Bang Concerts” will feature daily performances from artists like Alexandra Bernas, Barbie Almabis, and Brownman Revival, enhancing the immersive cultural experience. The “Christmas Herald Bazaar,” a holiday marketplace offering unique finds, will complement these festivities.

The show extends its impact with a special edition of “BANG! – The Metro Art Zine,” which offers critiques and profiles of emerging artists within the vibrant Metro Manila art scene.

With innovative programming and a diverse artist lineup, The Manila’Bang Show 2024 promises to be a landmark event that will spark creativity within one’s heart.
