Taylor Swift mourns 23-year-old fan who died at 'Eras' concert in Brazil
A 23-year-old fan died at Taylor Swift's first of three shows in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for The Eras Tour.
The American pop superstar confirmed the death of the Swiftie named Ana Benevides in an Instagram story on Saturday, Nov. 18. "I can't believe I'm writing these words but it is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show," she began. "I can't even tell you how devastated I am by this."
"There's very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young," she added.
Taylor said she won't be able to talk about the issue when she holds her other upcoming concerts in Brazil this weekend as she "feels overwhelmed by grief."
"My broken heart goes out to her family and friends," she continued. "This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil."
Swifties said that Benevides was able to catch the start of the show, but she later fainted, went into cardiac arrest, and died.
According to reports, temperatures reached almost 100 degrees on the night of the incident.
Concertgoers claimed that they were not allowed to bring their own water to the Estadio Olimpico Nilton Santos stadium.
In some videos posted on X, the singer can be seen pausing her concert from time to time to ask for water from officials and even help hand it out to fans who kept shouting "water, water!" amid the extreme heat they experienced during the show.
