LOOK: Binibining Pilipinas 2024 names top 5 national costumes
Binibining Pilipinas 2024 has named the top 5 queens who stood out with their national costumes.
On June 11, the organizers of the pageant shared the list of top contenders which include Abra's Myrna Esguerra, Cavite's Zianah Famy, Oriental Mindoro's Myrea Caccam, Quezon Province's Joce Ann Garduque, and Kalayaan, Laguna's Monica Acuno.
Caccam's costume, designed by Michael Jayzon Dela Cruz, was inspired by the Naujan Lake and Dabalistihit Festival of Naujan. She donned a structured Filipiniana gown made of crystals emulating the waters of the lake. Its skirt was made of recycled plastic bottles while the top is adorned with crystals and pearls.
Meanwhile, Garduque's ensemble represents the Quezon Province's coconuts as it's made of different products of the fruit. Designed by Roy Aquino, the dress' bodice is lined with coconut shell beads and accents with fabric made of woven coconut husks. The headdress is made of corn husks symbolizing the region's agricultural landscape.
A daughter of a farmer, Acuno pays homage to her hometown with her Patrick Isorena Filipiniana. With her traditional ensemble, she carried a basket full of fruits and vegetables.
Famy channels the Kawayan Festival with her Karl Balao-designed outfit. The upper bodice is made from banig while the skirt is crafted from individually sewn rectangular Kawayan tassels.
Lastly, Esguerra embodied an epic heroine of the Tinguian people of Abra with her ensemble that is reminiscent of her home. In addition to symbolizing the spirit and heritage of her people, the woven dress is inspired by the beauty queen's basket-weaver mother.
From the top 5 queens, Binibining Pilipinas will award Best in National Costume at its Grand Coronation Night on July 7 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
