Man flies across the globe, spends £2,000 or P135k to retrieve his missing AirPods
How far would you go to recover your gadgets? For Lewis Ellis, it takes a 4,000-mile flight plus an airfare of £2,000 or almost P135,000.
Ellis has already gotten off his Qatar Airways flight from Bangkok to Doha, Qatar when he realized that he dropped his AirPods inside the plane. Eager to get it back, he tried to get inside the aircraft but the cabin crew sternly barred him.
According to a report by NeedtoKnow.online, Ellis immediately thought of the next best thing to do—follow his AirPods trail on the Find My mobile application. He was surprised to know that someone had already picked it up and was also in transit.
In a span of five months, the 31-year-old watched as his dear headphones take a trip around the world. "I don't know who took them but my AirPods went on the holiday of a lifetime," he told the portal.
"I watched as they flew from Qatar to Katmandu, before heading to a small village in the Himalayan mountains overlooking Nepal. They then took a short jaunt to Thailand before finally coming to rest back in Doha," Ellis continued. "I just couldn't stand it any longer — so I decided to track them down."
Ellis, who resides in Manchester, then flew to Doha to start his on-ground treasure hunt with his friend Tom and a local named Karim. Ellis called the quest “exciting” as he employed the help of the app which led them to an apartment.
He noted that he kept returning to the area, even going from one floor to another, while trying to connect to his AirPods through its Bluetooth connection. Fortunately, he found the exact residence when his earbuds successfully connected and it was returned to him safely.
“We high-fived and cheered, it was all fun and games and there were no hard feelings,” Ellis recounted. "As we left, one person apologized for the inconvenience. but I was just happy to have them back."
Ellis chronicled his AirPods quest in a video he shared on YouTube on Aug. 16. Watch it below.
