'Christmas miracle': PAWSsion Project finds new temporary shelter for rescued animals

Published Dec 26, 2024 4:08 pm

Animal rescue organization PAWSsion Project announced that they finally found a new temporary shelter for their rescues, just a few minutes away from their old place in Bulacan.

The non-profit organization shared the good news on their social media pages early this week, saying that an owner of the land agreed to let them stay there for free until the end of January.

“I got a call from one of the owners and when I was told that the space was available for rental and was okay with our set up, I could not help but cry happy tears! The corporation that owns the land are the owners of BeBe Infants’ wear by So-En and we cannot be grateful enough that they even offered the land to us rent free until end of January as we focus on the move! Thank you, thank you!” they wrote in a post.

PAWSsion Project added that they will start renovating the space after Christmas, and that they have also found workers who can build the space for P30,000. Additionally, they have also found a house in Metro Manila that they will be renting starting January for their senior dogs, ambassadogs, and cats.

The animal shelter is currently calling for donations of at least 500 pieces of 60x60 tiles in white or off-white for the new main hall and covered area, as well as wall paint for the isolation kennels. The deadline for donations and/or pledges is on Dec. 28.

They will move the majority of the rescues to the temporary shelter on Dec. 30, which is just 10 minutes away from their place in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan. With this, they are likewise seeking dog walkers and volunteers who will assist in bringing the rescues there, painting the walls, and cleaning the area.

Those who are interested can go directly to their current shelter in Bulacan.

PAWSsion Project said they have also been offered a warehouse in Novaliches that will serve as a halfway home and adoption center or pick-up point when they don’t have mall events.

“We will be doing everything we can to look for the perfect space and a permanent shelter within the [one] year that we will be renting this property,” they shared.

Early this month, the animal shelter announced that they were halting their rescue operations to focus on finding a temporary space and moving some of their rescues to foster homes, some to their Bacolod shelter, and their cats to a rented house. During that time, they were looking to rent a fenced space within San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan for over 300 rescues.

According to them, the lease for the Bulacan space that they've been using has already expired, and despite asking for an additional extension, they were only given until the end of the month to move as there are now potential buyers of the land.

Malou Perez founded the PAWSsion Project in October 2018 after she rescued dogs on death row scheduled to be killed by gunshot. After that first pound rescue, numerous reports poured in, leading to the opening of a second shelter in Bulacan in mid-2019. Since then, they have rescued more than 2,000 animals and found foster homes for 1,000.
