'Paano na kaming chicken breast is lyf': Netizens grieve over chicken supply shortage at Jollibee, McDonald's
It was a sad celebration of Fried Chicken Day as Jollibee and McDonald's announced that they were experiencing a chicken supply shortage. Filipino netizens took to social media to air their grief over the news, with some of them even encountering difficulties ordering their favorite chicken meals.
"Due to continued increase in consumer demand and limited chicken supply in the market that meets our high-quality standards, a number of stores of Jollibee and Mang Inasal are unable to serve some chicken orders," the Jollibee Group said in a statement on July 7.
Meanwhile, McDonald's has also reportedly temporarily stopped selling chicken in some stores because of a surge in demand. However, the company maintained that there is no shortage in poultry supply, they just wanted to uphold the quality of their food.

Prices of a whole chicken in the National Capital Region have increased 25% to around P200 per kilo since the start of the year.
According to United Broiler Raisers Association president Elias Jose Inciong, the chicken supply in the country is affected by a number of factors such as quality of feeds and rising feed input costs.
However, he said it's too early to tell if there is a nationwide shortage of poultry.
