Bella Thorne reveals downside of being the ‘perfect’ Disney kid
American actress Bella Thorne is done pretending to be the “perfect” kid.
In an interview with Fox News last week, the 23-year-old former Disney star said that the global production house is “wrong” for putting pressure on its young talents to appear flawless on screen.
"There are definitely a lot of pressures in the Disney eye to be so perfect and I think that's where Disney, in a sense, goes wrong because they make their kids seem perfect," Thorne revealed.
The singer-songwriter began her career in showbiz as a child model. She rose to fame in 2010, when she played an aspiring dancer named CeCe Jones in the Disney Channel series Shake it Up! She fronted the show alongside Zendaya Coleman.
"That image is very difficult. It's also never been me," she told Fox News. "I always just like to do whatever no one else is doing.”
The singer-songwriter likewise pointed out that what today’s young generation should see is how unique people are from each other.
"Little kids growing up don't need to see perfect people. Kids need to see real. They need to see diversity, they need to see intriguing," she continued. "People that are real talk about real things. I think that was much more important than my image. The Disney image was much less important.”
Thorne has since been an advocate of individualism. In 2016, she came out as bisexual on Twitter. Three years later in 2019, the actress announced in an interview with Good Morning America that she’s “actually pansexual” or someone who is attracted to another person’s personality rather than his or her body.
"I feel really confident in my sexuality," Thorne told Fox News. In fact, the former Disney star holds no bars when showing her provocative side on Instagram. And she does it with the art of not giving a hoot about what people say.
"You just can't react. If someone says you're an ugly piece of s--t and you look bad, you're thinking, 'Am I really an ugly piece of s--t? Is that who I am?' By doing that you are giving those words weight. Those are really just words," Thorne said.
While plans to start her own “good a--" lingerie line is in the pipeline, the former Disney star revealed that writing her own poetry book "The Life of a Wannabe Mogul: Mental Disarray” is her biggest accomplishment so far.
"My life has changed in a lot of really amazing ways. Now when fans come up to me, they don't always say, 'I love you from this movie, that movie.' They say, 'Oh my God, I read your book and I connected to it so much because of this terrible time,’” Thorne said.
"They tell me these stories and we connect. We usually both cry a little bit, and we hug. The book has curated me these beautiful moments in time that I get to fully be in," she added.
