Ateneo de Manila University continues to lead the Philippines' list of schools in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings.
For the third consecutive year, the Katipunan-based school appeared as the highest-rated school among 29 colleges and universities in the country in terms of its contributions to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SGD) with a 79.1 score out of 100.
This year, Ateneo landed 201–300 out of 1,591 institutions globally compared to its 100-200 bracket last year.
It scored highest in five SDGs: No poverty (101–200), Clean Water and Sanitation (68); Affordable and Clean Energy (101-200); Sustainable Cities and Communities (101–200); and Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (55).
University President Fr. Roberto Yap SJ vowed to continue the universities' effort and contribution in "helping build a more sustainable present and future, as outlined in our Lux In Domino 2030 strategic plan."
"As we pursue our goal of helping make the UN SDGs a reality, and on our path to becoming a Laudato Si' University, our entire community will always aim to become a force for good in our world,” Yap added.
Australia's Western Sydney University claimed the top spot for this year's ranking.
Other local schools including De La Salle University and the University of the Philippines placed in the 400-601 bracket.
On its fifth edition this year, the Times Higher Education ranks and assesses universities across the world based on our broad areas: research output, outreach, teaching, and stewardship programs.
