'i, ROBOT' director accuses Elon Musk of copying movie's designs for Tesla Optimus, Robovan, Cybercab
The director of i, ROBOT called out Elon Musk for allegedly copying the designs found in his 2004 sci-fi action movie.
On X, of which Musk is executive chairman, Alex Proyas shared a photo of stills from i, ROBOT, and the upcoming robot products of Tesla, Musk's multinational automotive company.
The movie's police robots were juxtaposed with Tesla's Optimus, the transport with Tesla's Robovan, and the car with Tesla's Cybercab.
"Hey Elon, Can I have my designs back please?" Proyas said, with hashtags bearing Musk's name. He didn't tag Musk.
Filmmaker Matt Granger, Proyas's assistant in i, ROBOT, didn't mince words in criticizing Musk as he shared a news article about the issue.
"I too wish to offer my full-fingered ‘f**k you’ to Elon and his utter lack of creativity," Granger said on X.
Musk has yet to address the matter.
i, ROBOT, which took inspiration from American author Isaac Asimov's 1950 short story collection of the same, is set in 2035 Chicago, a time when humanoid robots serve humanity.
The story follows a detective (Will Smith) who investigates the alleged suicide of an official, believing a robot actually murdered him.
