Texas mom, dad, daughter graduate college at the same time
A student from a university in Texas graduated with her parents in the institution's historic first.
Texas Lutheran University (TLU) in a news release announced that Ashley Adams just completed her degree as an education major alongside her mother Robyn, a master of accountancy, and father Greg, a business major who's also a retired Army veteran.
“This is my fun fact when I meet people,” Ashley is quoted as saying. “Who else can say that they went to college with both of their parents and will be walking the stage with them?"
Ashley said her parents didn't finish school because they want to start a family, and there were "better opportunities" at the time to obtain that goal.
"I remember how proud I was when they decided to go back to school at a local community college," Ashley added.
Robyn and Greg, then, asked Ashley if she'd be comfortable about them transferring to TLU, to which she told them, "Go for it!"
Ashley said her parents have had "such a presence" on campus.
“My mom has taken on a mother-like role and was always helping her classmates in various ways," she said. "My dad got to be a college athlete by joining the golf team."
According to TLU, Ashley plans to become a math teacher as well as a track and field coach. Robyn has accepted the role of associate auditor at accountancy firm Forvis (formerly BKD), while Greg will work in the human resources at Randolph Air Force Base.
“It’s amazing to see them turning yet another page to start a new chapter of their lives,” Ashley said.
