Jollibee’s Chickenjoy named Brunei’s ‘Best Fried Chicken’
Jollibee's favorite Chickenjoy has once again captured tastebuds as its original variant was named the “Best Fried Chicken” in Brunei at the recently concluded Brunei Food Awards (BFA) 2020.
According to the BFA website, a total of 336 restaurants participated in the Best Dish Award competition, where more than 700 dishes were presented to the panel of three judges who followed the EAT Methodology in judging the dishes: execution, appearance and taste.
Only 75 dishes from 44 restaurants were given the “Best Dish Award” in their respective categories.
Established in 1987, Jollibee Brunei is reportedly the first overseas chain of Jollibee Foods Corp. At present, the beloved Filipino fast-food chain has 18 stores in Brunei serving halal-certified meals.
One of Jollibee Brunei’s offerings is the Nasi Lemak Chickenjoy with rice and gravy, which costs 5.20 Brunei dollars (about P190), while its two-piece Chickenjoy with rice and gravy costs 3.80 Brunei dollars (about P140).
The fast-food chain’s first Brunei store was also the first Jollibee to open a right-hand drive-through store, and first drive-through outside the Philippines.
The BFA 2020, a new initiative to promote and invigorate the growth of the Brunei F&B industry, is the first food award of its kind in the country that recognizes and formally awards the best dishes of both local and international cuisines.
Jollibee's Chickenjoy continues to receive rave reviews from around the world. Like for this year's "National Fried Chicken Day" in the US, Redbook Mag placed the Chickenjoy at No. 4 in its "Best Fast-Food Fried Chicken" in the US list. As the website described it, "The pleasures of Chickenjoy, as it’s called, are immediate: The sheath of skin is as craggy as a thunderhead, crannies and crunch multiplying."
