8-year-old in China who watches too much TV gets punished with all-night binge by parents
Parents punish their kids for disobedience in different ways—some make their children stand in the corner, while others take away the child's beloved gadgets. To discipline their eight-year-old son, a couple in China forced the kid to watch television all night as punishment for sitting in front of the TV instead of doing homework.
The parents, based in Hunan province, left their son to finish his homework and go to bed by 8:30 p.m. But when they came home, the mother saw that the boy was still up watching TV and did not finish his homework or showered, reported Chinese news outlet Vista.
From his bed, the child was dragged back to the living room to watch TV all night.
At first, the boy was quiet, eating his snacks and playing on his tablet, but he started crying around 2 a.m. He then tried sneaking into his room to sleep but was brought back out by his mother to continue his TV binge.
The parents took turns monitoring the child, making sure he was watching—the dad woke him up a few times. It wasn't until 5 a.m. that the boy was allowed to go to sleep.
While the mother said tough parenting had a positive effect on her son, others online had a heated discussion.
"I had a similar experience. After taking our three-year-old son, who is a fan of KFC, to eat hamburgers and chicken for three days, now his enthusiasm is gone," one commenter said.
"The punishment was too harsh, and what if the boy starts to get used to staying up late?" another said.
"Not all people are fit to be parents," another user added.
