#ReliefPH: Where to send donations for the affected communities of Typhoon Odette
Severe tropical storm Odette entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Tuesday night, Dec. 14, and has triggered a number of mass evacuations in Cebu, Bohol, Misamis Oriental, Southern Leyte, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, and Surigao del Sur, among others.
Though it has slightly weakened after making landfall over Roxas, Palawan, a number of families have since been affected by the super typhoon.
If you have the means to spare, here's a running list of organizations and donation drives where you can help out.
PhilSTAR Media Group’s Operation Damayan
In solidarity with communities severely affected by Typhoon Odette, the Philstar Media Group is launching a typhoon fund drive through its social arm, Operation Damayan.
According to Philstar president and CEO Miguel Belmonte, Damayan will be mobilizing previous donations from San Miguel Corp. chairman Ramon Ang (P1 million) and from SM Prime Holdings management and employees (P500,000) to send immediate assistance to typhoon-hit Cebu. The relief operations will be carried out by employee-volunteers of The Freeman, the Group’s Cebu-based publication.
Typhoon Odette has caused massive damage in Visayas and Mindanao, prompting calls for local and international humanitarian assistance to affected communities.
Readers are welcome to send in donations to the Operation Damayan fund drive via Gcash (look for Payment Solution tab and search for Philstar Daily Inc.), via Paymaya app (click Scan to Pay, scan QR code and enter amount):
Donations may also be deposited to Philstar Daily Inc./ Operation Damayan Metrobank Savings Account No. 151-7-15152422-9, and deposit slips emailed to [email protected]. Interested donors may also contact 09174695009 (Emie Cruz) or 8527-7777 local 2111.
Philippine Red Cross
The Philippine Red Cross has called for an emergency appeal to aid the victims of Typhoon Odette. The organization has since deployed rescue vehicles in the devastated areas since its landfall. They are also currently preparing rescue equipment and relief operations for those evacuated.
