NAIA rises to 15th spot in international connectivity rankings for airports worldwide
The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) rose in ranking as one of the most internationally connected airports, according to a leading data platform for the global travel industry.
OAG's 2023 Megahub Index showed that NAIA, with the international code "MNL," ranked 15th out of 50 airports worldwide, from the 29th spot in 2019. The United Kingdom topped the list.
Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) had a 32% share of flights in the country's international gateway.
NAIA also placed 3rd in the top 25 low-cost megahubs and 6th out of the top 10 megahubs in the Asia Pacific Region. Malaysia led the rankings in the two lists.
To date, the Philippines hosts 40 international carriers serving 58 international destinations.
Among its latest carriers is Japan's ZIPAIR, which launched trips between Manila and Narita last July.
PAL also introduced nonstop flights to Perth in Australia, while Air China now has direct connection to NAIA.
Hong Kong's HK Express will have its debut flight to Manila on Oct. 13, while America's United Airlines will start its nonstop flights between San Francisco and Manila on Oct. 30.
The Philippines's leading low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific, meanwhile, will be launching flights to Da Nang in Vietnam on Dec. 7.
