285-year-old lemon sells for P100,000 at auction
Got a fruit lying around at home? You might want to keep it as early as now.
BBC News reported that a 285-year-old lemon fetched £1,400 (P100,000) at an auction in England. Inscribed on the find is a note that reads "Given By Mr P Lu Franchini Nov 4 1739 to Miss E Baxter."
The lemon was found in a 19th century cabinet.
Owned by a deceased relative, the old drawer was being photographed for selling at Brettells Auctioneers & Valuers in Newport, Shropshire when the citrus fruit was discovered. It ended up being sold for only £32 (P2,000).
The auction house then decided to try to sell the lemon as well, which was later found in the middle of a bigger bidding war.
Other aged goods that were sold at the auction include a 52-million-year-old fruit fossil, 2,000-year-old butter, 348-year-old cheese, and 60-year-old cake, according to BBC News.
