Woman gives birth four hours after finding out she's pregnant

A woman, who was previously told by her doctors she was considered infertile, welcomed a child four hours after learning about her pregnancy.

Multiple media outlets like Chao News and South China Morning Post reported that the 36-year-old woman, surnamed Gong, first went to a small clinic for a physical exam after experiencing numbness in her arms in December. It was later found that she had high blood pressure, which prompted her to seek treatment at Zhejiang Provincial People’s Hospital.

She was asked to undergo an ultrasound when the doctors learned that she didn't have her period for months. The results then revealed that she was more than eight months pregnant.

The news left Gong in shock as she was previously told by her doctors she was unable to have children due to a womb disorder. She and her husband previously agreed on having a kid via in vitro fertilization (IVF), to which her doctors objected as Gong was overweight.

Gong gave birth to her little bundle of joy via caesarean section four hours later.

“There were only four hours from finding out I was pregnant to the birth of my baby,” Gong was quoted as saying.

Yang Liwei, an obstetrician at the hospital, explained that some women tend not to notice body changes as well as fetal movements during pregnancy due to their weight.

“A weak pregnancy reaction is not necessarily a good thing,” Yang said.

“Women not knowing they are pregnant will not take a prenatal examination, which makes it hard to ensure the safety of both the mother and the baby,” she added.
