Dad recounts witnessing son getting attacked by shark in Egypt

A Russian father mourned over his son who was devoured by a shark in a resort in Hurghada, Egypt a few days before Father's Day. 

Distraught, Yury Popov described the painful horror of seeing his son Vladimir being mauled to death in the sea.

"My son was attacked by a shark. It all happened in seconds," he told the media. 

He explained how he helplessly witnessed the incident from the shore when the predator circled his son before dragging him underwater, desperately screaming for his help. 

In a video that is now circulating online, Vladimir attempted to flee the shark while onlookers were heard screaming in horror, calling on him to swim away.

The father also reported that no other family member was near to help him. 

"What kind of help can you give? This meat grinder happened in 20 seconds, he was just dragged under the water," he added.

Popov described the attack as an "absolutely ridiculous coincidence" because they went to relax on what he thought was a safe beach.

"There are ships and yachts around. It's never happened there. They usually attack on wild beaches. It's just some kind of evil fate," he said.

Moreover, other videos surfaced showing the tiger shark being caught alive and dragged ashore by a boat following the attack, as confirmed by Egypt's environment ministry.

According to the authorities, shark attacks are considered rare to take place in the coastal areas of the Red Sea.

As per report, however, two fatal incidents of shark attacks were reported last year in Hurghada, resulting in the deaths of Austrian and Romanian tourists.

The local authorities will examine the predator to find out possible causes for the attack. 

They also obligated the tourists of the Red Sea "to comply with instructions and regulations organized to deal with natural resources in the Red Sea for their safety."
