After 'Demon Slayer' reference, DOTr channels Studio Ghibli to announce free MRT-3 ride extension

After referencing the popular shonen series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is taking another page from an equally popular Japanese anime.

In their latest post promoting the extension of free MRT-3 rides, the agency used a photo from the Studio Ghibli film, Spirited Away.

"Maging si Chihiro at Kaonashi, hindi nagpahuli sa LIBRENG SAKAY sa DOTr MRT-3, na EXTENDED PA UNTIL MAY 30!" the caption reads.

The photo features the film's pivotal train scene wherein lead characters Chihiro and No-Face take the mystical train to meet a character at the opposite end of the spirit world. In DOTr's take, instead of the red metaphorical train, the two characters take the MRT-3.

A group of passengers can also be seen in the background waiting for Chihiro and Kaonashi's train to accept them.

Similar to the Demon Slayer post, netizens flocked to the comments section.

"Nakakatuwa yung admin ng DoTR. Ang informative and also ang entertaining, good job guys," one user said.

A sentiment with almost a hundred likes is in favor of the Facebook page's moderators: Mukhang na promote nga sya. Sana may bonus 'yung Social Media manager nito," one user commented.

The page replied: "Louder pls! Ehem beke nemen Sec. Boss pogi lodicakes" with a tag to DOTr chief Arthur Tugade.

The free MRT-3 rides began on March 28 and have been extended until May 30 as a way to celebrate the rehabilitation of the train line.
