'Rewind' becomes first Filipino film to breach the P900 million mark
Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2023 entry Rewind, starring the real-life couple Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera, made history as the first Filipino film to cross the P900 million mark at the box office.
As of Tuesday, Jan. 30, the movie earned a running total worldwide gross of P902 million, according to ABS-CBN Film Productions, Inc.'s Facebook post.
"900M NA PASASALAMAT! Thank you for being part of this record-breaking history! Above all, #SalamatLods!" the caption read.
The film, co-produced by Agosto Dos Productions and APR Entertainment, has surpassed Alden Richards and Kathryn Bernardo's 2019 film Hello, Love, Goodbye, which earned P880 million in global gross sales, and The House of Us also with Bernardo and Daniel Padilla with P660 million.
Moreover, Rewind also broke the record for the highest-grossing Filipino film ever set in domestic theaters, which Hello, Love, Goodbye previously held.
Now in its fifth week, Rewind is being shown in over 270 theaters in the Philippines including international theaters such as the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Guam, and Saipan.
Directed by Mae Cruz Alviar, the film follows the story of John (Dantes), an arrogant husband who, with the assistance of Lods (Pepe Herrera), wishes to "rewind" his marriage with his wife Mary (Rivera) when they encounter unforeseen household difficulties.
The movie marked the real-life couple's reunion movie after 13 years following the romantic comedy film You to Me Are Everything in 2010.
