Manny Villar is still the richest Pinoy billionaire according to Bloomberg
He may have slid a few spots. His net worth may have dwindled a bit on paper. But business tycoon Manny Villar remained in the company of the world’s super rich people according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
As of Jan. 8, 2021, the former senator’s total net worth was valued at $6.72 billion, or about P323 billion, ranking 383rd in Bloomberg’s list of the 500 richest individuals.
Villar’s wealth was slightly down by $200 million from last year’s $6.92 billion. Villar’s ranking also slid 123 notches from last year’s 260th.
Villar is now also the only Filipino on the list. Last year, ports magnate Enrique Razon came in at 454th in the Bloomberg rankings.
The 71-year-old former senator grew his wealth through his real estate business. Now, he is the chairman of Vista Land & Lifescapes as well as his affiliate businesses such as Golden Bria Holdings, which develops memorial lots; mall operator Vistamalls; and home improvement retailer AllHome Corp, all four of which are publicly listed companies.
Topping the list this year is Tesla chief Elon Musk, who overtook Amazon boss Jeff Bezos as the world’s richest man.
The 49-year-old entrepreneur Musk had a listed net worth of $188.5 billion, which was $1.5 billion more than Bezos. The growth in Musk’s wealth was due primarily to the eight-fold growth of Tesla shares last year.
Many other rich Filipinos are not included in the list as their listed individual wealth did not pass muster or are more closely held.
