Netflix faces raps over 'lewd' film 'Cuties'
Top streaming entertainment service Netflix is facing criminal raps over French film Cuties following criticisms of its ‘lewd’ depiction of a child.
The indictment was filed late September in Texas, claiming that “Netflix promoted, distributed, and exhibited material, which ‘depicts the lewd exhibition of the genitals or pubic area of a clothed or partially clothed child who was younger than 18 years of age’ for the ‘prurient interest in sex,’” according to a report by NBC News. “It also states that the material held no serious ‘literary, artistic, political, or scientific value.’”

The movie revolves around an 11-year-old Muslim girl who wanted to be a part of a “free-spirited dance crew.”
In a statement released to NBC, Netflix denied the accusation, saying, “Cuties is a social commentary against the sexualization of young children. This charge is without merit and we stand by the film.”
Reuters reported that the movie poster received backlash in August for allegedly sexualizing young girls in two-piece swimsuits, which Netflix apologized for.
