Esports community mourn the passing of Mobile Legends caster Rob Luna
Rob Luna, former Mobile Legends Professional League PH shoutcaster, passed away on the evening of February 28. He was 37.
ULVL Productions announced on their Facebook page the passing of Luna. They wrote: “It is with great sadness to announce that our Production Manager, our brother, Rob Luna, passed away peacefully on February 28.”
“We want to honor his incredible life and contribution, not just to the Esports industry, but most importantly, to the people of ULVL Productions.”
“More than just being the Production Manager of ULVL since 2021, he was a brother to the management and a father to the staff,” they added without sharing the cause of death.
They added that Rob "will always be cherished and remembered."
"You have been a valued member of this family and will be greatly missed."
The cause of his death has yet to be disclosed.
Meanwhile, the Esports community mourned Luna’s passing, who they consider as the “best caster” in the community.
TNC Pro Team described Luna as “a true icon and a visionary whose talents and contributions transcended in ML Community.”
“Beyond his professional accomplishments, Rob was also known for his kindness, generosity, and compassion,” they continued.
Shoutcaster and streamer Bennette Felix, also known as Prof B, recalled his relationship with Luna—his best friend since 2007 starting in college up to their professional careers in Esports.
“Nilaban niya yung sakit niya at request niya na wag ilabas sa public kasi ayaw niya nang pinag kakaguluhan siya at matapang si Rob na labanan ito,” he wrote.
Bon Chan, the team coach of Blacklist International, a Southeast Asian esports organization under Tier One Entertainment also expressed his condolences.
“Isa ka sa mga taong naniniwala at excited sa mga laro namin nung panahong wala pa kaming napapatunayan..” he wrote, adding, “RIP kaibigang Rob Luna sana marinig ulit namin ang malulupit mong shoutcast.”
Billy “z4pnu” Alfonso, a long-time MLBB player, was surprised to hear the news. "Nakaka kilabot tumataas balahibo ko. Mahal ka namin brother Rob Luna," he wrote.
Renejay Bacarse of Blacklist international also paid tribute to Luna, re-sharing their video in October 2022.
“RIP BOSS Rob Luna ETO HULING USAP NATIN DAMI PA NATIN NAPAGMEETINGAN SAYANG HINDI NATIN MATUTULOY,” he wrote.
Renmar Santa Cruz also mourned Luna’s death, describing him as a “selfless person” who helped him during casts.
“One of the most selfless human beings I’ve had the immense honor to work with and call a friend. We weren’t the closest, but you always made it feel like we were. Heck, you did that with everyone you met,” he wrote.
“...you were selfless in helping me, someone who wasn’t 100% in their comfort zone at the time, feel comfortable. Salamat sa buhat pre,” he added, expressing his gratitude to Rob, who he calls, “Rob Legend.”
Aside from being a production manager, Luna is one of the renowned and long-time casters in the Mobile Legends community. He debuted his professional casting career on the Tagalog broadcast of MPL Philippines Season 4. He had also cast in MPL Philippines Season 7, and international tournaments including the ML:BB Southeast Asian Cup and the M2 World Championships.
