Man faces life sentence for fatally stabbing mother after argument on his video game's volume
A man from New Hampshire was handed a life sentence for fatally stabbing his mother after they argued about the volume of the video game he was playing.
Associated Press reported that Thomas Humphrey, 47, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and arson in the death of Linda Tufts, 70, last November in their house.
He's facing 40 years in prison.
WMUR-TV reported that according to the prosecutor, Humphrey, who lived in the basement, stabbed Tufts multiple times and lit her body on fire. She complained about how loud he was playing the PlayStation she had given him on his birthday.
Police also found Humphrey at the bottom of the basement stairs with self-inflicted wounds and holding a knife.
“The brutality of this crime simply makes it too dangerous not to impose a very lengthy state prison sentence,” said Judge William Delker.
A relative named Kimberly, meanwhile, told Humphrey that he tore their family apart.
"The grief, the anger, the pain—that just continues on," Kimberly is quoted as saying by WISN News.
"You took one of our matriarchs of the family. It was completely unforgivable."
