Tom Daley to compete in the Olympics for the fifth time
Tom Daley will be making his fifth appearance at the Olympics after he punched his ticket to the 2024 Paris games.
The British diver secured his spot alongside Noah Williams to represent Great Britain in the synchro diving competition.
For the coming games, Tom came out of retirement in July 2023 after his five-year-old son Robbie said, "Papa, I want to see you dive at the Olympics." The athlete's son was only three during the 2020 games.
And even though it will be his fifth Olympics, Tom is determined to make his mark once again.
"Of course, I would be lying if I said I didn't want to win another medal," he said, he told The Guardian in an interview in January 2024. "I mean, it's in my nature. I'm going to give it everything that I've got."
Tom has won four medals at the Olympics since he started in the games at 14 years old in 2008 wherein he placed seventh. During the 2012 London Olympics, the athlete was able to bring home a bronze medal, while at the 2016 Rio Olympics, he earned another bronze with Daniel Goodfellow.
At Tokyo 2020, the diver nabbed his first gold medal with Matty Lee in the men's synchronized 10m diving event and earned a bronze at the individual 10m platform diving.
The Olympian is currently based in Los Angeles with his husband, screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, and their two kids.
"There is a fantastic mix of youth and experience within the squad, and I am delighted to welcome Olympic champions Jack (Laugher) and Tom back," Team Great Britain's Chef de Mission Mark England said in a statement.
"Congratulations to Tom in particular who becomes the first British diver to compete at five Olympic Games—a remarkable achievement."
