Indian bride's father gets her married to a relative as drunk groom arrives four hours late

In The Hangover trilogy, Doug and Stu arrived late in their respective weddings after a night of debauchery, though still carried on with the biggest day of their lives in epic fashion.

In India, however, life took a different turn. In a twist of fate, a bride's father got her married to a relative instead because the groom was reportedly so drunk it took him four hours to arrive at the wedding venue.

Local media reported that the wedding was scheduled April 22 in Malkapur Pangra, a village in the district of Buldhana. The bride's side pushed for a 4:00pm ceremony, which was within Muhurat or "auspicious hour" in Hinduism.

The groom and his family and friends, however, arrived in the venue at around 8:00pm, with the bride's side accusing them of dancing and drinking elsewhere, according to India Today.

Altercation took place between the two parties, as  the bride's side didn't allow the groom to proceed with the wedding.

“The groom’s side were busy dancing," India Today quoted the bride's father as saying. "They reached the venue at 8:00pm. So, I got my daughter married to one of my relatives.”

The village's peace committee intervened before things go out of hand. The two parties apologized to each other as the groom's side departed the venue.

After their exit, the bride's father chose another eligible bachelor for his daughter to marry.

Not to be outdone, the groom's side searched for a new bride from the nearby Deulgaon Kohdi village where their distant relatives are. They got married within 24 hours, The Times of India reported.

“They performed the marriage on April 24 early morning," The Times of India quoted a peace committee member as saying. "The matter ended peacefully."

"Both sides were aggressive and regretted later. But the damage could not be outdone."
