LOOK: Kanye West drops $200 Yeezy Gap puffer jacket. Gap’s ‘sold out’ message a glitch

The first piece from Kanye West’s long-awaited Yeezy Gap line dropped June 8, and was sold out in a matter of hours.

The $200 unisex blue puffer jacket is zipperless and made of recycled nylon, along with the “YZY” logo in Gap’s signature logo format on the inside collar.

Dubbed the “Round Jacket,” it became available for pre-order in the United States on the rapper’s 44th birthday yesterday, and will ship in October, according to Gap.

Almost a week prior to its official release, Kanye was spotted sporting the bright blue jacket in Los Angeles. “Floating projections” of the jacket were also seen around New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago as the product went live.

The launch generated reactions on social media, both for its design and price.

Some think that the jacket is overpriced, even drawing serious commentary on the “sharp divide between privileged hype consumers and the reality of the mass market.”

Others, however, defended the price as well as the design, even calling it “the future of fashion,” and that other fashion brands will produce “knock-offs” later on.

The jacket was shown to be already sold out on the website after only a few hours. Several people who seem to have pre-ordered the jacket have listed the item on eBay, selling it for a much higher price.

A spokesperson for Yeezy Gap, however, assured that the jacket was still available to pre-order, and customers are only seeing a “sold out” message due to its high demand.

The “Round Jacket” is only the beginning of the Yeezy Gap collaboration line. West had long expressed his interest in working with the company. In a 2015 interview with The Cut, he said that he would like to be the “Steve Jobs of the Gap” and be its head creative director one day.

In June last year, Gap announced a 10-year deal with West’s Yeezy label that will “deliver modern, elevated basics for men, women and kids at accessible price points.”

West confirmed the partnership via Twitter, with the hashtag #WESTDAYEVER and a slightly-blurred photo featuring a person wearing cargo pants, a bright hoodie and jacket cargo, and a bag that says, “Developed by Yeezy and Gap in Cody, WY 062520,” teasing fans as to what’s to come for the collaboration line.

Will you be adding the “Round Jacket” to your cart once it hits the Philippines?
