Lindsay Lohan was 'very hurt and disappointed' over joke made in new 'Mean Girls' movie
Lindsay Lohan did not take kindly to a joke made in the new Mean Girls movie as it seemed to reference a controversy surrounding her in the past.
In the new musical teen comedy film, which serves as a reimagining of the original 2004 flick, a scene took place that had rapper Megan Thee Stallion saying the line "We are going back red. Y2K fire crotch is back!" in support of the main character, Cady Heron.
Lohan, who is the first actress to portray Cady, did not appreciate hearing this as she attended the film's premiere, particularly for the "fire crotch" line as this was used as an insult to her body by socialite Brandon Davis.
In a viral video published by TMZ in 2006, Davis was captured making rude comments about Lohan's body, referring to her as a "fire crotch."
"Lindsay was very hurt and disappointed by the reference in the film," a representative for Lohan told PEOPLE.
Paramount has yet to respond to the media's request for comment. However, Tina Fey, who wrote the screenplay for both the original and the new film, previously told the New York Times that she encountered problems with writing jokes for the musical as times have changed.
"I was writing in the early 2000s very much based on my experience as a teen in the late '80s. It’s come to no one’s surprise that jokes have changed You don’t poke in the way that you used to poke. Even if your intention was always the same, it’s just not how you do it anymore, which is fine," she said.
"I very much believe that you can find new ways to do jokes with less accidental shrapnel sideways, she added.
The newest Mean Girls movie comes two decades after the release of the original, which had Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, and Amanda Seyfried portraying the iconic trio of popular girls reigning supreme over the school students.
Based on the Broadway musical of the same name, the film now stars Angourie Rice, Reneé Rapp, Bebe Wood, Avantika, and Auliʻi Cravalho, with Tina Fey and Tim Meadows reprising their roles from the original movie.
Lohan (spoiler alert!) also makes a brief cameo in the musical, appearing as the moderator of the Mathletes Championship. According to Variety, she took home a paycheck of $500,000 (P28 million) for just half a day's work on the movie.
The Mean Girls musical will premiere in Philippine theaters on Feb. 7.
