Jamie Lee Curtis gives Oscar statue they/them pronouns in honor of trans daughter, Ruby Guest
Jamie Lee Curtis has made her very first Oscars even more meaningful by honoring her trans daughter with it.
Still emotional, the 64-year-old actress and now Academy awardee showed up in her interview with TODAY hosts, Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie on Tuesday, March 14.
Hoda first asked Jamie if her win has already “sunk in.” Jamie replied, “I hadn’t watched that, that was my first time I’ve seen it,” pertaining to her heartwarming speech as she received her very first Oscar.
When asked by Guthrie if she has ever named it, Jamie said that she decided to use the pronouns they/them for it in honor of her trans daughter, Ruby Guest.
“I'm in support of my daughter Ruby, I'm having them be a they/them. I'm going to just call them, them,” she said.

“They/them, and they are doing great, they're settling in; In my life, I never thought it in a million years that I'd have these couple days, and I'm very moved by the whole thing."
Meanwhile, in the Oscars press room, Jamie also touched on the subject of gender-neutral categories in award shows.
"I would like to see a lot more women be nominated so there's gender parity in all the branches. We're getting there, [but] we're not anywhere near there. The inclusivity involves the bigger question, which is 'how do you include everyone when there are binary choices?'" she said.
"As the mother of a trans daughter, I understand that. And yet to de-gender the category I'm concerned will diminish the opportunities for more women," she said, adding: "The most important thing is inclusivity and more women. Basically, just more f---ing women, all the time and all at once."
Jamie’s youngest daughter, Ruby, came out as trans in 2020, and the actress has been very supportive ever since. In fact, she officiated Ruby and Kynthia’s Cosplay wedding in May 2022.
Jamie’s feat was one of the seven wins of the multi-genre movie, Everything Everywhere All At Once. She bagged the award of Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal as Deirdre Beaubeirdre, an IRS agent.
