Tom Holland is taking a break from social media for mental health reasons
It's a sad day for fans of Tom Holland as they may not be seeing updates from the Spider-Man actor on his social media accounts any time soon.
Holland took to Instagram on Aug. 14 to announce that he is pulling the plug on interacting with social media for a while, citing mental health as the main cause.
"I have taken a break from social media for my mental health because I find Instagram and Twitter to be overstimulating, to be overwhelming," Holland said in the video.
He continued, "I get caught up and I spiral when I read things about me online. And ultimately, it's very detrimental to my mental state. So I decided to take a step back and delete the app."
Holland had been inactive on Instagram for a few weeks now, with his last post being on July 2 while on Twitter, it was on Feb. 21.
The actor said that he only returned in order to sponsor stem4, a charity that supports positive mental health among teenagers.
"I’m going to disappear from Instagram again. And to everyone out there thanks for your love and support. I love you all, and I’ll speak to you soon," Holland ended.
While he may be staying inactive on social media, Holland's career is certainly not slowing down as he is set to star in the Apple TV+ anthology series The Crowded Room. He is also set to appear in Beneath a Scarlet Sky, a spy thriller series based on a Mark Sullivan novel, as well as a Fred Astaire biopic.
