Jiro Manio reveals where he used the P75,000 he made from selling Gawad Urian trophy
Jiro Manio shared what he did with the money he earned from selling his Best Actor trophy from Gawad Urian.
After expressing his gratitude and happiness over the P75,000 he got from Pinoy Pawnstars owned by social media personality Boss Toyo (real name: Jayson Luzadas), the former child star revealed that he used it to celebrate the holidays with his nearest and dearest. "'Yung P75,000 po from Pinoy Pawnstars ay ginamit ko pong panggastos namin ng family ko noong Christmas and New Year," he told entertainment site PEP.ph.
"Masaya po at overwhelmed ako dahil malaking tulong po ang naibigay ng Pinoy Pawnstars, lalo na si Boss Toyo," he also said.
Jiro made the rounds on social media earlier this week after being seen selling his prestigious award to Luzadas in a now-viral vlog. He won it for his acclaimed performance in the film Magnifico in 2004, which he was also recognized for by the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) and Luna Awards.
According to Jiro, he wanted his prize to be part of the museum that Jayson is looking to build.
"Kasi boss, plano ko talaga nung napanood kita—sabi ng utol ko magtatayo ka raw ng museum," Jiro told Jayson. "Naisip ko, sana mapabilang ako doon [bilang] dating artista na nakatanggap ng mga award."
Jayson assured Jiro that while he is no longer in the showbiz industry, his respect for him remains strong.
"Artista ka pa rin sa amin," he said. "Kung sa ibang tao hindi ka na nila iniisip na artista, sa mga naka-abot sayo, mataas parin ang respeto namin sayo."
"Nu'ng time na 'yon, isa ka sa mga hinahangaan namin. Mga idol kumbaga. Hindi mo maaalis sa mga puso ng mga naka panood sayo noon," Jayson added as he asked for the actor's asking price.
While he began by hoping for P500,000, negotiation with Jayson landed him a much smaller sum for the trophy. They eventually agreed to settle for P75,000.
Jiro spent his childhood years in the entertainment scene, rising to fame for his appearances in various commercials, television shows, and films like Anghel sa Lupa, Ang Tanging Ina, La Vida Rosa, and Manay Po, among others.
He left showbiz in 2011 due to drug addiction, and was arrested nine years later for allegedly stabbing a man. He was released after paying bail.
Jiro now works as a co-facilitator at the DOH Treatment and Rehabilitation Facility in Bataan.
