Sam Smith draws mixed reactions in latest artistic photo shoot
Sam Smith's bold fashion sense is too good to say goodbye to, continuing to be on the radar with another provocative photo shoot.
This time, the Unholy singer posted layouts from their photoshoot with Perfect Magazine, where it had the musician unironically wear a corset to flaunt their curves.
According to the publication, this month's theme is body autonomy, something that the singer advocates.
"Autonomy: the power of self, of personal choice, of independence. It is the ability to make one’s own decisions, to live as we see fit," the description read. "In this issue, we have gathered a stellar cast of incredible human beings, each of whom has carved their own path and soldiered forward to leave a profound mark on this world.”
Perfect's styling accentuated Smith's arm and back curves, while another photo shows Smith's freeing the nipple and exposing their belly.
On Instagram, fans and fellow celebrities celebrated the photos. Sorry Not Sorry singer Demi Lovato lived for the look, commenting with fire and black heart emojis and "I'm obsessed."
Plus-size model Tess Holliday reaffirmed Smith, saying, "This is taking your power back."
Fans also left comments of support such as "People hating 'the message of it' didn't really get the message right" and "This is gonna piss so many people off and I’m here for it."
Others, still, did not hide their hate for Smith's fashion choice.
"Let them breathe omg," one social media user captioned the Perfect photo featuring the singer's emphasized back rolls.
Another wrote, "He used to be so tasteful. What happened? Oh, right he pledged allegiance to Lucifer. Also, it’s kinda bizarre that 'Lucifer' autocorrects to have a capital L and god does not."

Referring to their music video I'm Not Here to Make Friends released in late January, Smith told UK media that they have addressed their body dysmorphia, then their gender identity and expression.
"Within my industry there is definitely that question of, 'What should a pop star look like?' It paid off because I now have the opposite of body dysmorphia. I look fabulous. I’m finally getting a tan. I’m burnt in places I’ve never been burnt," Smith said.
They followed that up with an all-black latex bodysuit shaped similar to a spade at the 2023 BRIT Awards. The designer Harri explained that the costume was directed toward critics of Smith's body image.
