Stage actor dies during performance after suffering from medical emergency

Veteran actor Julien Arnold from Canada died after experiencing a medical emergency during a performance in a stage play.

His sudden passing was announced by The Citadel Theatre on Instagram, describing him as a “cherished member” of the Edmonton theatre community and a “gifted performer.” 

“Julien’s passing is a profound loss to his family, friends, fellow Carol company members, Citadel staff, and the Edmonton community he loved so dearly. His presence brought joy, heart, and depth to every role, and his artistic contributions - and big hugs - will be deeply missed,” the theater wrote in its statement. 

The cause of his death was not disclosed, but as per CBC News report, citing Kerry Williamson, a spokesperson for Alberta Health Services, that Julien died at the theater “despite resuscitation attempts” by the paramedics. 

Julien was playing Marley/Mr. Fezziwig in A Christmas Carol, which recently opened on Nov. 23 and will run until Dec. 24 at The Citadel Theater. 

After his passing, the theater said it would dedicate the remaining shows to his memory. A fundraiser was also created for his wife, Sheiny Satanove, to cover her financial needs, including funeral expenses, rent, and groceries.  

According to his profile on the Canadian Theatre Festival, Julien also played roles in the local stagings of The Wizard of Oz, The Little Mermaid, A Picasso, Beauty and the Beast, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Once. Apart from being an actor, he was also a director, teacher, and founding member of Free Will Players which produces the Freewill Shakespeare Festival.
