Ringo Starr believes Barry Keoghan will play him in Beatles biopic
Saltburn star Barry Keoghan is set to play Ringo Starr in a biopic on The Beatles.
The drummer himself told Entertainment Tonight about the casting for Sam Mendes' upcoming series of biopics on each member of the iconic band.
Barry has been rumored to play Ringo. Other names tossed around to star as the Fab Four include Joseph Quinn, Harris Dickinson, Paul Mescal, and Charlie Rowe, according to reports.
"I think it's great," the Beatles member said. "I believe he's somewhere taking drum lessons, and I hope not too many."
In February, it was announced that all four members of the band will be featured in films about their lives. Variety said that the separate films will span their history leading to their breakup in 1970.
Mendes got the blessing from Ringo, Paul McCartney, and the families of the late John Lennon and George Harrison for the biopics. This would mark the first time the Beatles gave their full support to a scripted film.
"I'm honored to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time, and excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies," the Academy Award-winning director said at the time.
Official casting for the 2027 films has yet to be confirmed. However, Gladiator II star Paul Mescal has expressed wanting to play Paul McCartney.
"I would love to be involved, but there's nothing set in stone," he told GQ in October.
The Beatles is one of the biggest bands in history, gaining popularity in the 60s. Throughout their career, they launched 12 studio albums, 5 live albums, 51 compilation albums, 36 EPs, and more, which include tracks like Here Comes The Sun, Let It Be, Hey Jude, Help!, Come Together, and Blackbird.
This 2024, the band earned their first Grammy nomination for Record of the Year since 1997 for their song Now and Then.
