Megan Fox reveals how she got 'addicted' to falling in love with 'every co-star'
Megan Fox admitted that her "rebellious and wild" younger self was "addicted" to falling in love with "every co-star," and that it only changed when she became a mother.
The 37-year-old actress shared more about her life in a deeper sense during her interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, recalling her rebellious years, including how she would go from one romantic relationship to another.
“I think that I go on the same journey with every relationship; I enter every relationship as the girl who’s hoping and who’s wishing and then at a certain point in that relationship, you grow into the woman who realizes,” she began.
She went on to reveal how she never reached the point of realizing what relationship she must and must not pursue, and that she would always respond based on her childhood trauma.
“I wouldn’t say that I got to a point where, now, I always enter a relationship fully [realizing] I definitely don’t, because I'm constantly attracting,” she said.
“You know, partnerships and relationships are really just a place for you to face the shadow of your childhood traumas and the shadow of your belief system about relationships that you watched in your parents, whatever that is."
The Till Death star said that was what she saw after getting into relationships where she becomes either her late stepfather—one who is “impulsive and aggressive, very like verbally, mentally and emotionally abusive"—or her mother who tends to be "more passive."
Host Drew agreed, sharing how she herself also “loved the drama” and the highs and lows of the relationship—which Megan said was the “greatest addiction of all time.”
“Nothing can replace that,” the Jennifer’s Body star said. “The endorphins can’t be replaced from a dramatic relationship like that. It’s easy to get addicted to that.”
This addiction and the feeling of "running away" then led Megan to fall in love "with every new co-star" in her films.
"I was addicted to falling in love, and I think I probably hurt a lot of people in that process too, because a lot of people have been in love with me and I did not respect or honor that,” she revealed.
This all changed when she became a mother; determined not to repeat the same childhood she had.
"When I had kids, something happened in me," she said. "I think it’s a major part of my soul’s journey in this lifetime to not repeat my parents’ pattern with my kids, and I was always very aware of that,” she said.
“So this selfless person was born when I birthed my first child.”
Megan recently released her book Pretty Boys are Poisonous, a collection of poems reflecting her life experiences over the years. According to her Instagram post, the poems were written “in an attempt to excise the illness that had taken root in me because of my silence.”
She noted she spent her “entire life keeping the secrets of men,” as her “body aches from carrying the weight of their sins.”
“My freedom lives in these pages and I hope that my words can inspire others to take back their happiness and their identity by using their voice to illuminate what’s been buried, but not forgotten, in the darkness,” she added.
Megan is known for her roles in films like Transformers, Jennifer’s Body, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. She is also a mother to three kids whom she shares with her ex-husband Brian Austin Green.
She is currently engaged to rapper Machine Gun Kelly whom she started dating in 2020.
