WATCH: Gerald Anderson rescues stranded family from flood due to monsoon, Typhoon Carina

Published Jul 25, 2024 10:10 am

Gerald Anderson is one good samaritan.

The actor made the rounds online after being spotted helping a family stranded in a flooded area in Brgy. Sto. Domingo in Quezon City due to heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon or habagat and Typhoon Carina.

On X, user @TmaeOsanomae posted a video of Anderson in waist-deep flood while interacting with survivors who thanked him for the assistance.

The voice of what seems to be a crying boy can be heard, as someone tells him, "Halika na, that's kuya."

The child tells his adult companions to pack things up, as the child is asked to go to "the back of tito," pertaining to Anderson.

"Sige na, ako bahala," the 35-year-old star tells him.

The child, in a pink raincoat, appears on the frame, as Anderson carries him to safety.

ABS-CBN News reported that the uploader, Rachelle Joy Kabayao, said the now-viral video was from her sister, whose family was waiting to be rescued for nearly three hours before Anderson and others arrived.

Kabayao said her sister's family asked help from the barangay at 11 a.m., but could not be reached. When they called again, there was no boat available. Anderson, who reportedly owns a basketball court in the area, came to the rescue at 1:30 p.m.

The post got over 21,000 reactions, 2,900 retweets, and 90 comments.

A social media user commented a photo of Anderson moving along a lifeboat outdoors. "We live just in front of where he is staying and this is him helping transport people," the user said.

Someone also commented that it's "not the first time" that Anderson lent a helping hand and that he's a great swimmer.

The user likewise noted that the actor is a Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary Commander. Anderson has been an active member since 2016 and is part of the K9 Squadron, which his partner Julia Barretto has been a part of since 2021.

PAGASA said Typhoon Carina exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility at 6:20 a.m., Thursday, July 25.

But in its 5 a.m. bulletin, the state weather bureau said the southwest monsoon enhanced by Carina will bring moderate to intense rainfall over parts of western Luzon until Saturday, July 27.
