The first trailer for Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania is here and it puts Marvel's newest big bad, Kang the Conqueror front and center. With a nickname like "He Who Remains," will Kang be the next Thanos-level villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

The upcoming Ant-Man threequel was first announced during San Diego Comic-Con in July and is set for a February 2023 release date. In the trailer, Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly return as Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man, and Hope Van Dyne, aka The Wasp, respectively. Fans also get to see more of the grown-up Cassie Lang, played by Kathryn Newton.

After an experiment gone wrong, Scott, Cassie, Hope, and her parents Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne find themselves in the Quantum Realm. As they explore the kaleidoscopic dimension, they find new creatures and come across Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors.

Who is Kang the Conqueror?

He Who Remains actually made his MCU debut in the final episode of Disney+ series Loki after the god of mischief ended up fracturing the timeline. This character is actually just one of the variants of Kang the Conqueror. In the comics, he is one of the oldest villains, debuting in Avengers #8 in 1964 and has since become known as the master of time and space, conquering worlds in the Multiverse.

Kang was originally a 31st-century scientist named Nathaniel Richards, a descendant of the Fantastic Four's Reed Richards and villain Doctor Doom. His other variants have different origin stories, too, but this MCU Kang, clad in green and purple armor, is the creator of the Time Variance Authority and lives in the Citadel at the End of Time before he was killed by Sylvie.

This villain's powers include traveling the Multiverse, access to highly advanced technology, and the ability to see everything happening all at once—making him a threat bigger than Thanos.

After Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, He Who Remains is set to return in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which will hit theaters in May 2025. It will be exciting to see how Ant-Man and his family will beat the conqueror—if they end up facing off with him.
