‘Loki’ returns for a second season
The God of Mischief is returning for a second season, a first for the Marvel Cinematic Universe TV shows.
Marvel has revealed in the last episode of the six-episode Disney Plus series that “Loki will return in season 2.”
However, no further announcement has been made regarding the second season, all the audience knows is that Tom Hiddleston is surely going to reprise his role as Loki. It is also clear that the ending of the first season is connected to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness which is slated for a release in March next year.
Loki is the third series from the MCU released this year. First was the critically acclaimed WandaVision, starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany. This was followed by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier which stars Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan. Both shows have nabbed Emmy nominations with 23 for WandaVision and five for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
WandaVision was a limited series, much to fans dismay, but don’t worry. Wanda’s story will continue on to Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness; and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, with no season 2 in sight, but a fourth film for Captain America seems to be in the works and will pick up from where the season finale was left off.
Besides the upcoming second season and numerous new and sequel films, Marvel still has a chuck load of series waiting to be released.
The new animated series What If…? will drop in August this year. Hawkeye’s series is also expected to be released by the end of the year with Jeremy Renner reprising his role and Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop. Black Widow star Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova is expected to appear as well.
The new teen superhero Ms. Marvel, with Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, is also slated for a release this year and is hinted to be tied with the new Captain Marvel sequel.
She-Hulk, on the other hand, is expected to land next year with Mark Ruffalo, Tatiana Maslany, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Tim Roth and Ginger Gonzaga. Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight with Ethan Hawke is already being developed and is also due for a 2022 release.
Also in the works are Ironheart with Dominique Thorne; Armor Wars with Don Cheadle; Secret Invasion starring Samuel L. Jackson, Emilia Clarke, Ben Mendelsohn, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Olivia Colman; and finally, I am Groot.
