James Corden will be leaving The Late Late Show in 2023.

The announcement, first reported by Deadlinecame just a month after Corden marked seven years of hosting The Late Late Show which started when he sat behind the desk of the popular talk program on March 23, 2015.

The show was previously hosted by Craig Ferguson for nine years.

Corden has extended his contract with CBS for one more year, and will exit hosting duties for the show before summer 2023.

In an emotional show open, Corden spoke to his audience about the decision.

"Seven and a half years ago, I started hosting this show," he begins. "It has changed my life. I love it, I love all the people that work here. I am so proud of what we've achieved. It's been beyond my wildest, wildest dreams. So, I'm happy to announce today that I've signed a new contract to carry on hosting The Late Late Show."

Corden continued after telling the audience he appreciated the support, but there was another part to the announcement,"That's really only half the story on this one. The other half is... the sadder news is, I've decided to sign for one more year on the show, and that this will be my last year in The Late Late Show."

Corden had reinvigorated the 12:30 a.m. slot of the show with some truly memorable segments such as Drop the Mic, Crosswalk Musical, Spill Your Guts, and Carpool Karaoke—segments which have gone viral on social media racking up hundreds of millions of views.

Corden's Carpool Karaoke bit with Adele alone has over 254 million views, and The Late Late Show YouTube channel has over 27 million subscribers, second only to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with 29 million subscribers.

According to the Deadline report, CBS higher ups wanted Corden to keep going, offering deals such as a three-year extension, two-year extension and a rolling one-year deal before his big decision.

“My bosses here at CBS have been incredibly supportive and extraordinarily patient with me while I made this decision,” Corden told Deadline.

There has been no word on a replacement, which is understandable with an announcement this early. What is known is that Corden has about 200 shows left to go before wrapping up his time with The Late Late Show.

“All of my greatest ambitions for what (the show) could be, it’s absolutely surpassed all of them,” he told Deadline. “My intention is to try and go out in exactly the same way we came in, which is just going out with a bang."
