Talk about dedication!

Nicolas Cage had his teeth shaved down to nail his transformation to Dracula in comedy-horror film Renfield

In a conversation with Variety, the movie’s makeup artist Christien Tinsely revealed that they “shaved Nic’s teeth down and the dentures were fitted so as not to impede on Nic’s speech and allow full freedom.”

“Nic wanted to emote and annunciate properly, so it was important the veneers were thin,” he said.

“This was the first film that I know of where we used 3D printing to do all the dentures. We jumped in headfirst with 3D printing. We would scan Nic’s teeth and digitally sculpt them,” he explained.

The unique process let the artists play with various designs quickly, yielding an output “as thin as possible.” According to Tinsely, this gave them enough time to “have another set ready to go” in case they broke.

According to iMDb, the upcoming film follows the story of Renfield, Dracula's henchman and years-long inmate at the asylum as he “longs for a life away from the Count, his various demands, and all of the bloodshed that comes with them.” It’s set to hit theaters on April 14.
