Nadine Lustre helps set up charging stations in Siargao: 'I'm just really happy everyone is helping each other'
Nadine Lustre and Greenpeace Philippines set up solar-powered charging stations for the residents of Brgy. Malinao in the Typhoon Odette-battered Siargao.
"We've installed a solar panel here that the locals can use to charge gadgets, phones, and lights, anything that will need charging since the whole island still has no power no one knows when it will come back," she said in a video posted by Greenpeace on Dec. 23.
The actress, who is currently in Siargao, shared that the people in Brgy. Manilao helped out with the assembly, too.
"I'm just really happy everyone is helping with each other and there's a lot of people outside the island who want to help as well. It's really nice because earlier when we were setting up, there was a table that was a bit wobbly and it's the kids who helped me fix it. They're the ones hammering the nails to get it stable," Lustre said.
Earlier in the week, Lustre posted calls for donations for those affected by the typhoon, along with other personalities including Andi Eigenmann, Richard Yap, Beatrice Luigi Gomez, and Slater Young.
Siargao is one of the many areas devastated by Typhoon Odette. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Dec. 23 reported 258 deaths and P3.6 billion worth of infrastructure and agriculture damage caused by the super typhoon in Negros Oriental, Cebu, Surigao del Norte, Palawan, Iloilo, Guimaras, and more.
