Joe Alwyn has been announced as a cast member of the upcoming film The Brutalist, less than a week since his reported breakup with singer Taylor Swift.

The British actor will star alongside Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, and Guy Pearce in the movie.

"When visionary architect László Toth and his wife Erzsébet flee post-war Europe in 1947 to rebuild their legacy and witness the birth of modern America, their lives are changed forever by a mysterious and wealthy client," the movie's IMDB synopsis reads.

Additional details have yet to be released regarding Alwyn's role.

"The film captures 30 years of László Toth’s life, charting an epic saga and an unconventional love story that take László and Erzsébet to both monumental heights and devastating lows," according to a press release.

The Brutalist marks Alwyn’s first role since Lena Dunham’s Catherine Called Birdy on Amazon Prime Video and the screen adaptation of Sally Rooney’s hit novel Conversations With Friends on Hulu.

The announcement of his new project comes a few days after international media reported that he has called it quits with Swift following a six-year relationship. This was supposedly due to "differences in their personalities," particularly with Alwyn since he "didn't like the limelight" from Swift's global stardom.

Alwyn became interested in acting during his teens, starting out by performing in two student productions at Edinburgh Festival Fringe. He joined the National Youth Theatre in 2009, graduated with a bachelor's degree in English literature and drama from the University of Bristol in 2012, and finished another undergraduate program in acting at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in 2015.

At the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, he was recognized with the Trophée Chopard for his appearance in critically acclaimed films. Among his notable works are The Favourite, Mary Queen of Scots, and Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk.
