Dennis Trillo donates P100,000 MMFF cash prize to PDLs
Dennis Trillo, who recently won the Best Actor Award in the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival, has turned his victory into an opportunity to give back by donating his monetary prize.
On Facebook, the actor's road manager Jan Enriquez, revealed how Dennis and his wife Jennylyn Mercado chose to donate the P100,000 cash prize to Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL).
"In case you are wondering, right after Dennis accepted his award ay may lumapit sakin na staff para iclaim na daw ang napanalunan 100k courtesy of sponsor Playtime. So ako na nag-claim on Dennis’ behalf and inabot sa akin ito in cash (o di ba? Because why not)," he wrote.
He continued, "Iaabot ko na dapat kay [Jennylyn], then sabi ni bessie, 'Bessie, i-donate na lang natin iyan sa mga PDL'and agad-agad ko itong inabot kay JC Rubio na siyang may [connect] sa grupo ng mga PDL kung saan hango o inspired ang Tree of Hope."
In case you didn't know, JC Rubio works as senior program manager for I-Witness and Kara Docs. He is also the creative producer for GMA Pictures and the concept creator of Green Bones.
Enriquez went on to state that there is an actual Tree of Hope at a facility for PDLs, which contains their wishes.
"Doon po gagamitin ang 100k.. para matupad ang mga munti nilang hiling."
"When I say munti as in simple talaga minsan hiling lang nila bagong t-shirt, shorts, sapatos, diapers para sa baby nila sa labas etc.," he added, emphasizing that PDLs were also the beneficiary when they played in GMA game show, Family Feud.
"Thanks for your kindness, Dennis! You truly embody our movie's main message," Enriquez concluded.
Directed by Zig Dulay, Green Bones revolves around the belief that green bones are revealed whenever a good person is cremated. The movie then asks: "What makes a person good? Can criminals ever redeem themselves and become virtuous?"
It starred Trillo, who portrayed the role of Dom, a man convicted of his sister's murder who is now on the verge of being released on parole. Opposite him is Ruru Madrid as Xavier, a prison guard haunted by the unresolved murder of his own sister. Xavier's lingering pain and frustration over his sister's case fuel his resentment toward Dom's impending freedom.
During the 2024 MMFF Gabi ng Parangal, Green Bones took home the Best Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Cinematography awards.
Aside from Trillo, Madrid clinched the Best Supporting Actor, and Sienna Stevens for Best Child Performer. Here are some of the other films that won big at the MMFF 2024 awards night.
