'Firefly' storybook based on MMFF 2023 Best Picture is now up for sale
Loved the heartwarming story of the award-winning film Firefly? You can now revisit it in its storybook adaptation.
GMA Public Affairs announced on Facebook that the book is now up for sale for P399. Each one comes with a free postcard.
The new offering is available on the GMA Store online and e-commerce platforms ShopeeMall and Lazada.
The book was written by Augie Rivera, a renowned kids' storybook writer, and scriptwriter who also wrote stories Ang Lihim ni Lea and Ang Isang Harding Papel. He also served as a head writer of educational TV shows Batibot, Art Angel, and, currently, AHA!.
The illustrations were done by Aldy Aguirre, an award-winning artist who mostly works on children's books.
The storybook was based on Angeli Atienza’s screenplay for the film Firefly, one of the entries for the 2023 Metro Manila Film Festival. Directed by Zig Dulay, the movie stars Alessandra De Rossi and child actor Euwenn Mikaell.
It bagged three awards, including Best Screenplay, Best Child Actor, and Best Picture. It also won the Best Director, Best Supporting Actress, as well as Best Screenplay and Best Picture awards at the Manila International Film Festival held in California last February.
Firefly follows the story of Tonton (Euwenn Mikaell) who looks for a fabled island based on his mother Elay’s (Alessandra De Rossi) bedtime tales during his childhood years. When he became an adult (played by Dingdong Dantes), he became a children’s author who wrote books inspired by his mother’s stories.
