Nico Parker joins ‘The Last of Us’ live-action cast
HBO’s The Last of Us TV series casts Nico Parker as Joel’s daughter, Sarah, for the live-action adaptation of the popular zombie apocalypse video game by Naughty Dog.
Nico Parker is known for her role as Milly Farrier in the 2019 Tim Burton film, Dumbo. She will be joined by her on-screen father Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, and Gabriel Luna as Tommy.
Much like the video game’s premise, Sarah’s character plays a pivotal role in Joel’s character development and life.
For those unfamiliar, The Last of Us takes place 20 years after an outbreak that transformed humans into zombie-like creatures called the Infected. Those who are left live mercily in the hands of policed quarantine zones, independent settlements, or nomadic groups. Joel works as a smuggler along with his partner Tess. One day, after an eventful job, Joel and Tess were tasked to smuggle a teenage girl across America.
The Last of Us TV series is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television, while PlayStation Productions, Word Games, The Mighty Mint, and Naughty Dog are set to produce it.
Craig Mazin, Chernobyl creator, and Neil Druckmann are both the writer and executive producers of the live adaptation. Naughty Dog president, Evan Wells along with Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan of PlayStation Productions, with Rose Lam, are also executive producers.
The pilot episode is directed by Kantemir Balagov, while Jasmila Žbanić and Ali Abbas are set to direct the following episodes as well.
Filming for the series starts on July 5 and may possibly end on June 8 next year at Alberta, Canada.
