Jinkies! New 'Scooby-Doo' live-action series coming soon on Netflix
Jinkies! Are you ready for another live-action Scooby-Doo adaptation?
The comedy-mystery cartoon series is reported to be coming to Netflix in live-action form soon. According to Variety, the project is set to be a long drama series based on characters created by Hanna-Barbera.
The series will be produced by Warner Bros. Television, with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman serving as executive producers via Berlanti Productions.
The studios are known for producing shows that are also based on cartoon and comics media, such as Riverdale, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Titans, Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, among others.
Plot details and casting are yet to be unveiled, but the new reimagining is expected to follow elements from its source material.
The original Scooby-Doo series revolved around four teenagers: Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, and Shaggy Rogers, and their talking Great Dane named Scooby-Doo, as they attempt to solve mysteries brought about by supernatural creatures.
At the end of each quest, the group discovers that the creatures are nothing more than ordinary people disguised in costumes.
This is not the first time that Scooby-Doo has been made into live-action. It was previously adapted back in 2002 and stars Freddie Prinze Jr., as Fred, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne, Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, and Linda Cardellini as Velma.
The titular dog was meanwhile created through computer-generated special effects and his voice was provided by Neil Fanning. The film received a sequel two years later titled Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed with the same cast returning.
Aside from this, a live-action television series had also been made called Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins, aired by Cartoon Network in 2009, which told the origin story of the Mystery, Inc. gang.
Overall, the Scooby-Doo franchise is still receiving much attention in recent years since its premiere in 1969. It was made into a full-length CGI film in 2020 by Warner Bros. Pictures and the character Velma became the focus of the adult animated mystery television series by Max.
