UP Diliman emerges as top PH university in latest EduRank ranking
The University of the Philippines (UP) in Diliman, Quezon City, topped the latest EduRank rankings of 100 best universities in the country.
According to the latest assessment published on Thursday, Feb. 29, UP Diliman is the top higher education institution in the country, 374th out of 5,830 higher education institutions in Asia and 1,367th out of 14,131 higher education institutions worldwide.
EduRank is an independent metric-based ranking that takes into consideration factors such as research output, non-academic reputation, and alumni influence.
Statistically, UPD published 8,902 scientific papers, which were cited 91,432 times, based on the EduRank's index.
The university's research topics cover a range of fields, including Environmental Science, Engineering, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Liberal Arts & Social Sciences, Geology, Quantum and Particle physics, Computer Science, and Geography and Cartography, to name a few.
Meanwhile, the influence of its 79 notable alumni, including former president Ferdinand Marcos Sr., former vice president Leni Robredo, Nobel Pece Prize awardee and CEO of Rapple Maria Ressa, veteran journalist Jessica Soho, and award-winning screenwriter Ricky Lee, among others, made an impact to the ranking.
Following UP Diliman are De La Salle University in Manila, Ateneo de Manila University, University of Santo Tomas, and UP Los Banos, respectively.
EduRank established the ranking by analyzing the largest reference database available, the popularity of 1,093 known alumni, and the 500,000 citations earned by over 50,000 academic articles produced by 229 institutions in the Philippines.
Meanwhile, UP also emerged at the top of the Philippine schools that made it to the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2024.
From 412th in 2023, UP recently landed on the 404th spot. It was followed by the Ateneo de Manila University, which ranked 563rd (from the 651-700 bracket in 2023).
DLSU entered the 681-690 bracket of the global education network's list—ahead of the UST in the 801-850 bracket.
The QS World University Rankings put the spotlight on 1,500 educational institutions in 104 locations around the world.
