CBS greenlights 'Young Sheldon' spinoff series about Georgie Cooper's family life
The Cooper family story continues!
CBS has officially ordered a Young Sheldon sequel series starring Sheldon's older brother, Georgie (Montana Jordan), together with his wife, Mandy (Emily Osment)
According to Deadline, the TV network greenlit the new half-hour, multi-camera comedy series on Tuesday, March 5 for broadcast from 2024 to 2025.
The producing team behind The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon—Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro, and Steve Holland—will also create the series.
“From the Big Bang Theory to Young Sheldon, the world of the Cooper family has been incredibly special to us,” they said in a joint statement, as per Deadline.
“We’re very excited to continue their stories through the eyes of Georgie and Mandy," they added.
In case you missed it, CBS said earlier this year that they are "nearing a deal with Warner Bros. TV for a direct-to-series order on a Young Sheldon spinoff."
The upcoming television series will highlight the hardships of maturity, parenthood, and marriage as Georgie and Mandy raise their small family in Texas.
The story of Georgie and Mandy begins when the two get to know each other in a laundromat owned by the former's Meemaw, played by Annie Potts, in the series Season 5. Georgie was a 17-year-old dropout at the time, while Mandy, a former weather girl, was 29. Both characters lied about their ages when they began their relationship, which became problematic when Mandy got pregnant.
The couple then welcomed their child Constance Cooper in the following season. Meanwhile, in the last season, Mandy accepted Georgie's proposal and got engaged.
On the other hand, fans of TBBT assumed that the pair wouldn't be together for long as Georgie from the original series (played by Jerry O'Connell) said he had two ex-wives—probably one of them is Mandy.
Young Sheldon, which is the spinoff of the hit 2007 American TV sitcom Big Bang Theory, announced in November last year that the show will conclude with the upcoming seventh season with 14 episodes, which premiered on Feb. 15. The last episode of the series, which will be a one-hour finale, will air on May 16.
The comedy series tells the story of Sheldon's childhood before he became the quirky (and most times, annoying) but lovable physicist in TBBT, where Jim Parsons played the adult Sheldon.
